At the November Council meeting small sports grants totaling €76,000 were announced, the grants were between €700 to €900 in value to the successful applicants.
The Sports Office invited sports clubs throughout Fingal to apply for a small grant under the Youth Sport (Small Grant) Scheme, which is part funded by the Irish Sports Council. Every sports club on the Fingal Community Network and Sports Office databases were written to and invited to apply, in addition, to press releases to the local papers, use of social media (Facebook and Twitter) and promotion by our sports development officers.
The purpose of the Youth Sports Grant is to assist existing sports clubs towards equipment purchase, refereeing / coaching fees etc, with the main aim of increasing participation levels in their local communities.
Successful applicants had to meet the following criteria:
be situated within the boundaries of Fingal have sport for young people (under 18yrs) as its primary focus operate as a ‘not for profit’ club or organisation that is open to public membership have a voluntary management committee with elected officers be affiliated to an Irish Sports Council recognised National Governing Body
have a bank account in its own name and adequate insurance cover for all aspects of their activities carry out their activities ensuring compliance with current legislation have policies and practices that are inclusive and encourage participation regardless of gender, race or ability
operate under the basis of best practice for children in sport, any club member involved with the youth activities of the club must have attended or be registered to attend a Child Welfare & Protection Code of Ethics Awareness Course and the club’s designated Children’Officer must hold the Irish sports Council accredited Children’s Officer Certificate and provide certificate number. keep written records and registration of members. The records must be available to the Fingal County council Sports Office on request. Be established a year or more.
In addition we require clubs to acknowledge funding received from Fingal County Council to club members and the wider community in media outlets including newsletters / Facebook and twitter.
