From North County Leader:
Swords local area election candidate, Joe Newman (NP), is advocating a new car park at Lissenhall, in Swords. He is adamant that the new car park should be located near the terminus for the new Bus Rapid Transit scheme, which is planned for Swords, as well as Metro North, if is approved next year.
Speaking to the County Leader, Newman said that a new car park would prove very beneficial for residents of Donabate and Portrane, who can drive the short distance to Lissenhall, and avail of the new public service, to fulfil hospital appointments and other engagements in the city. They can also avail of visits to Swords, whilst alleviating traffic problems in the area. “This car park would be of enormous benefit to residents in Donabate, who travel long distances to the city, to the airport, or to college and have to endure endless traffic jams on their way to, and from their destinations. It would also benefit people from other areas of the North County, as well as boosting the local economy.” he said.
The proposed new Bus Rapid Transit” scheme (BRT) is called “Swiftway” and will service Dublin Airport. The proposed journey time from Swords to O’Connell Street is 35 minutes, as opposed to over an hour at present, and the service could be up and running by 2017.
